Ucraina nella Nato, Usa e Germania frenano ingresso Kiev

Sono Stati Uniti e Germania i Paesi che più si oppongono a un ingresso dell’Ucraina nella Nato nel breve periodo. Lo hanno detto fonti diplomatiche dell’Alleanza, mentre a Washington si apre il vertice che celebra il 75mo anniversario della Nato, anche alla presenza del presidente ucraino Volodymyr Zelensky.

Le fonti hanno parlato di “una forte opposizione” di Berlino e Washington a un invito a Kiev prima che abbia rispettato le precondizioni necessarie, ricordando che il summit potrebbe concludersi come quello a Vilnius dello scorso anno, dove, nonostante le pressioni, Kiev non venne invitata a entrare. “Gli ucraini erano piuttosto irritati quando hanno concluso che la porta era aperta, ma non così tanto. E credo che lo scenario per il vertice di Washington sia lo stesso”, hanno sottolineato le fonti.

Zelensky-Biden, l’incontro giovedì

Il tema con ogni probabilità sarà al centro del bilaterale che il presidente ucraino Volodymyr Zelensky avrà nella giornata di giovedì con il presidente americano Joe Biden. Il faccia a faccia è stato anticipato dalla Casa Bianca, che ricorda che quello di giovedì sarà il terzo incontro tra Biden e Zelensky in un mese: il 7 giugno si erano visti in occasione delle celebrazioni per l’80mo anniversario dello sbarco in Normandia e la settimana dopo al G7 in Italia, dove avevano firmato un accordo sulla sicurezza.

Intanto, il Segretario di Stato americano Antony Blinken ha incontrato a Washington il Segretario generale della Nato Jens Stoltenberg, nella prima giornata del summit. Blinken e Stoltenberg hanno discusso le importanti decisioni che i leader alleati prenderanno al vertice, compresa l’attuazione del più grande piano di rinforzo per la difesa collettiva da generazioni, e l’approvazione dell’impegno della Nato sull’espansione della capacità industriale che migliorerà la capacità degli alleati di difendersi dalle minacce attuali e future.

I due leader, ha reso noto il portavoce del Dipartimento di Stato degli Usa Matthew Miller, hanno accolto con favore i progressi significativi nella condivisione degli oneri, con oltre due terzi degli alleati che attualmente rispettano l’impegno di destinare il 2% del Pil alla spesa per la difesa. Blinken e Stoltenberg hanno inoltro discusso le decisioni attese al Consiglio Nato-Ucraina di giovedì per costruire un ponte verso l’adesione all’Alleanza consentendo al tempo stesso la difesa dell’Ucraina contro l’aggressione russa, oggi e in futuro.
